Ionuţ Mareș is a graduate of the Faculty of Political Science, Philosophy and Communication Sciences of the West University of Timisoara, majoring in Journalism-English (2008).

He holds a Master’s degree in Thematic Journalism from the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences (FJSC) of the University of Bucharest (2008-2009), with a dissertation on the cultural press and the New Wave in Romanian cinema, defended in 2011.

Since 2013, he has been the head of the film review section of the cultural portal Ziarul Metropolis (ziarulmetropolis.ro). Since 2015, he has been a selector of the Competition of the Film Festival Ceau, Cinema!

Timisoara, and in 2017, selector of the short film competitions of the ANONIMUL International Independent Film Festival. Author of „Oslo, 31 August – A Critical Study” (LiterNet Publishing House, 2017), produced as part of the „Éducation à l’image” project of the NexT Cultural Society.
