Winner of the Best Screenplay Award at Cannes 2015 and of the Best Film Award at Un Certain Regard 2012, Mexican director Michel Franco is the guest of honor at ANONIMUL International Independent Film Festival 2017.
At this year’s edition of Cannes Film Festival, starting May 17th, Michel Franco is participating in the Un Certain Regard Competition with his most recent film, APRIL’S DAUGHTER, starring Emma Suárez, known for her role as Julieta in the homonym film directed by Pedro Almodóvar, President of the Cannes 2017 Official Competition Jury.
In 2015, CHRONIC, starring Tim Roth, won the Best Screenplay Award in Cannes, the Official Competition further screening films directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, Nanni Moretti, Paolo Sorrentino and Denis Villeneuve.
President of the Un Certain Regard Jury in 2012, Tim Roth was the one who awarded the Mexican director for DESPUÉS DE LUCÍA. The two share a special relationship, Tim Roth noting that “it all began in Cannes. I saw his film and it devastated me…”.
Franco will be presented at ANONIMUL as both director and producer, the festival also screening films 600 MILES, directed by Gabriel Ripstein and winner of the Best First Feature Award at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival, and DESDE ALLÁ, directed by Lorenzo Vigas, awarded the Golden Lion at the 2015 Venice Film Festival.
Michel Franco will be awarded the ANONIMUL Trophy for his contribution to the beauty of cinema within the Opening Gala of the Festival. His body of work will be presented to the audience in Sfântu Gheorghe, and Q&A sessions will follow the screenings.
ANONIMUL 14 will run 7th to 13th August 2017 in Sfântu Gheorghe, the Danube Delta.
The 14th edition of ANONIMUL International Independent Film Festival is organized by the Anonimul Foundation and the FAMart Association.
