Marcos, a general's driver, is haunted by the tragic outcome of a child kidnapping he perpetrated with his wife.
In a different world, there is Ana, the general's daughter, who prostitutes herself for pleasure.  In his troubled search for relief, Marcos confesses to Ana
In nowadays Mexico, kidnapping is quite common. This phenomenon helped me talking about universal things. In fact, Marcos character could as well be a German or a Chinese, says Reygadas about his character.
The title Battle in Heaven is revealed to be ironic, since Mexico City is closer to hell than to heaven, says Reygadas.

Carlos Reygadas
Born in Mexico, in 1971. After studying and practising law, he decided to live in Brussels and he turned to his new passion: filmmaking. For two years, he works on forming a team composed essentially by debutants for his first feature, Japan, that he produces himself. Japan will be presented in Rotterdam and Cannes film festivals, where he is awarded a special mention at Camera d�Or section.
Battle in Heaven is his second feature film.
